Cleveland Browns star man Picks Up Hefty $25,000 fine For Comments About Officiating

Following the Browns win over the Jaguars, Myles Garrett didn’t mince words regarding the inconsistent and sometimes missing calls by the officials

Myles Garrett now knows what it means to put his money where his mouth is.

The Browns star was charged a hefty $25,000 fine by the NFL after criticizing the officiating during his postgame press conference after the Browns 31-27 win over Jacksonville.

Garrett’s frustrations largely stemmed from the lack of calls going in his favor while taking on numerous questionable blocks from Jaguars tackle Blake Hance;.

The officiating was a travesty today,” Garrett said postgame. “…It was honestly awful. Respect to those, they have a hard job, but we have a hard job as well.

Given the opportunity to walk his comments back on Friday, Garrett stood by his remarks, explaining how officials withholding their flags while he’s drawing obvious penalties has been a common theme of the season. Ultimately, he hopes his remarks don’t fall on deaf ears, and his contributions to the league’s coffers are worth it.

It is what it is,” Garrett said this week. “Right now I’m not getting any calls so it can’t get much worse than that. But I hope it has a positive effect. I’m not trying to offend anybody, I just want them to do the job to the best of their ability.”

As Cleveland gets set to host the Bears on Sunday, Garrett will hope for better misfortune in Week 15. It’s been three straight weeks without a sack for the former No. 1 overall pick, something that hasn’t happened since 2021. Perhaps part of the reason he’s been held in check – sitting at 13 sacks for the season – has to do that teams are getting away with slowing him down by any means necessary. Even illegal methods.

This isn’t the first time Garrett has received such a lofty fine from the NFL. Back in 2019, the Texas A&M product paid a $45,623 fine for his role in the Mason Rudolph skirmish, where he struck the Steelers QB with his own helmet. That incident also saw him get suspended indefinitely. In this instance, he’ll only feel the effects in his wallet.
