Alabama football added an extra name to its list of 2024 signees on Wednesday. The Crimson Tide flipped Aeryn “Bubba” Hampton from Texas on the first day of the early signing period for the 2024 recruiting class.
The four-star athlete from Daingerfield, Texas was convinced at the last moment to forego his home state’s flagship university in favor of a move to Tuscaloosa. After Alabama announced 23 signees Wednesday, head coach Nick Saban had nice things to say about Hampton.
“Bubba’s kind of a dog, man,” Saban said. “He’s one of those guys that’s a great competitor and makes a lot of plays. Whatever he plays on offense, wherever he plays on the field he doesn’t come off the field very often. They had a very successful season this year, I know they had a disappointment in the playoffs but this guy’s a great competitor, can do a lot of things and we’re really excited about having him.”
Hampton played both wide receiver and cornerback at Daingerfield, which fell one game short of reaching the Texas state championship game. Alabama listed him as standing 5-foot-10 and weighing in at 175 pounds.
The 247Sports composite rankings placed him as the No. 11 athlete in the class of 2024. In addition to Texas, Hampton had been committed to Baylor at one point in the process.
He also held offers from UTSA, LSU and Colorado among others. He was one of two flips in Wednesday’s crop of Crimson Tide signees, along with Tuscaloosa County running back Kevin Riley, who spurned Miami in favor of Alabama.
