The New England Patriots may look to former Baltimore Ravens safety Jaquan Amos for the upcoming season.
FOXBORO — Amid the flurry of activity during an eventful day for their coaching staff and front office, the New England Patriots hosted free agent safety Jaquan Amos for a workout on Wednesday, per KPRC 2’s Aaron Wilson.
Listed at 6-1, 200, Amos joined the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. The 25-year-old was waived with an injury settlement out of training camp last August after recording a pair of tackles in his preseason debut versus the Philadelphia Eagles.
Amos began his collegiate career in 2017 at Villanova, playing in 33 games for the Wildcats. During that span, he collected 149 tackles, eight interceptions, four touchdowns, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. After spending one year as a transfer at Iowa State, Amos concluded his college football tenure at Ball State in 2022. He logged 95 tackles, one half-sack and an interception in 12 games.
New England may find itself in need of help at the position in the upcoming season. Top safety Kyle Dugger and veteran Jalen Mills are set to enter unrestricted free agency, while veteran Adrian Phillips is a prime candidate to become a salary cap casualty — due to the $3 million the Patriots would gain in additional space with his release. The Pats currently have veteran Jabrill Peppers and second-year hybrid safety/linebacker Marte Mapu under contract for 2024.
On a positive note, the Pats will be maintaining some level of continuity in their defensive backfield by retaining the services of safeties coach Brian Belichick for 2024.
