Newcastle and Tottenham are right at the front of the queue to sign £30m Brazilian midfielder

Atalanta midfielder Ederson has been regularly linked with a move to the Premier League over the course of the past 12 months – and it is claimed that Newcastle and Tottenham are leading the way.

Ederson, 24, has impressed at Atalanta since joining the club from Salernitana in the summer of 2022. Already, he’s clocked up 72 outings, but this term has scored six of his seven goals for the Serie A club.

In January, it was claimed that Tottenham and Fulham were interested in the uncapped Brazilian star – but now, Calcio Mercato say Juventus are pushing to keep Ederson in the top tier of Italian football.

The report also claims that Newcastle and Tottenham are providing the biggest competition for Juve. CM say that both Premier League sides are on the ‘front row’, with Atlanta requesting a fee of £30m.

Both Newcastle and Spurs are likely to be in the market for central midfielders this summer. Spurs could wave goodbye to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and lack major depth in that position anyway, at the moment.

Injuries and Newcastle and the situation surrounding Sandro Tonali has seen the emergence of Lewis Miley, while Sean Longstaff has become a key player. But the Toon will want better in central midfield.

Is Ederson an improvement on what Spurs and Newcastle currently boast? Probably not, but he is not at at his peak yet and a £30m fee in this day and age is somewhat cheap. He is also somewhat “versatile”.

That is according to South American expert Tim Vickery, who highlighted how he can play in a number of roles in the middle of the park – holding, box-to-box or advanced. A solid signing, for both clubs.
