Nottingham Forest electrifying defender opens talks with Anderlecht as players set to leave City Ground

According to Football Insider, Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo is in talks to join Anderlecht.

Reds manager Steve Cooper has given the wing-back, 27, permission to leave as he now needs to trim his squad in order to register with the Premier League for the second half of the season.

Hull City have also expressed an interest in Toffolo, but he prefers to stay with Anderlecht and is not interested in moving to the Championship club.

The Belgian club is confident of completing a deal before the transfer deadline on Tuesday.

Forest have signed 25 players since their promotion, with Gustavo Scarpa, Danilo, and Chris Wood joining this month.

Despite a £10 million move from Huddersfield in July, midfielders O’Brien and Toffolo are both expected to leave and find first-team opportunities elsewhere.

Left-back Toffolo has only made 12 appearances in all competitions for Cooper’s team.

The former Lincoln City midfielder has been dropped in favor of Atletico Madrid loanee Renan Lodi, with his most recent appearance coming against Wolves in October.

Toffolo, who has racked up more than 250 league appearances in English football, signed a contract running until 2026 at the City Ground.

He is one of a number of Forest players who have had little impact despite signing for a large fee last summer (2022).

Emmanuel Dennis, Giulian Biancone, and Moussa Niakhate have also struggled for first-team opportunities since their moves.

Nottingham Forest are 13th in the Premier League, four points clear of the relegation zone, and face Leeds United in their next top-flight match (5 February).

Meanwhile, Anderlecht are 11th in the Belgian Pro League following the departure of manager Vincent Kompany to Burnley last summer (2022).
