The Cleveland Browns have made moves to their wide receiver core this season by acquiring Jerry Jeudy from the Denver Broncos. Cleveland traded a fifth and sixth-round pick in exchange for Jeudy then extended his contract through the 2027 season, guaranteeing him a total $41 million for the next four years.
With the addition of Jeudy, Deshaun Watson will have a multitude of options to throw to next season including Amari Cooper, Elijah Moore and David Njoku. However, this isn’t the only wide receiver’s contract Cleveland plans to extend.
Cleveland Browns GM Wants to Be “Proactive” With Amari Cooper Extension
According to Browns General Manager Andrew Berry, contract extension talks with Amari Cooper have raised due to the market for wide receivers increasing each season. Cooper will enter the final year of his contract in 2024.
“Probably by Week 1 of the NFL season, the top of the market’s going to be north of $30 million,” Berry said. “So as we think of the contract management space, rather than be reactive to new market dynamics, we try to be proactive. Probably more importantly, when we think about an extension or a signing, we think of where is the market going to be on September 1 as opposed to March 1.”
Berry also acknowledged Cooper’s importance to not only the offense’s production, but as a voice in the locker room as well. With his comments made at this year’s annual NFL owner’s meetings, it looks like Cooper will be staying in Cleveland well after this upcoming season.
