Dean Jones told GIVEMESPORT that Leicester City’s star has a better chance of following Brendan Rodgers out of the club.
Leicester City star James Maddison is expected to leave the club at the end of the season, following Brendan Rodgers.
There were already serious doubts about Leicester’s ability to keep their prized asset beyond this season.
Is James Maddison on the verge of leaving Leicester?
However, sources have stated that the England international felt a sense of loyalty to Brendan Rodgers when there were rumors of him leaving in January, and that now that the manager has left, there is a greater chance of him leaving for a new challenge.
The Foxes are looking for a replacement for Rodgers and will still hope to persuade Maddison to stay, but Newcastle United, the current frontrunners to sign him, may face more competition now that he appears to be more attainable.
Maddison, who is valued at £48 million by Transfermarkt, has big ambitions in the game and intends to give himself the best chance of remaining in the picture after an England run out in the last international break.
Playing for a European-level club will be part of that vision, and Rodgers’ departure could be the perfect catalyst to persuade him that now is the time to leave.
Leicester City have recently begun new contract talks with him, but they know keeping him will be difficult, and insiders say he is the player Newcastle would most like to sign as they improve their squad for next season.
Maddison has also been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and Manchester City, but he will want to work with a manager with whom he can form a strong relationship, and Eddie Howe is a good candidate for that.
Leicester are in a critical period as they seek a manager to save the season and avoid relegation.
Aside from that, they are facing a team overhaul, with midfielder Youri Tielemans leaving in the summer and others likely to follow. However, Rodgers has felt for some time that the squad had become stale and that significant changes were required, but there were issues with Financial Fair Play when it came to new signings.
The search for the team’s next leader is currently underway. The initial list of managerial candidates at Leicester is taking shape, with names like Ralph Hassenhuttl, Adi Hutter, Jesse Marsch, and Graham Potter being mentioned.
