”Wasn’t true” – £5m man denies Leeds utd transfer Progress after “Heavy” offer

German attacking midfielder Nadiem Amiri has opened up on his failed move to Leeds United in the summer window, when he travelled to the city only to fail to reach an agreement.

Daniel Farke likely couldn’t have many complaints at all about how the 49ers handled the summer window when he was appointed, given the hand they were dealt after relegation.

The club made ambitious signings to add to the squad, while some targets decided not to move to Elland Road.

Late in August, it was revealed that Leeds had agreed a fee with Bayer Leverkusen to sign their attacking midfielder Nadiem Amiri for £5million.

All that appeared to stand in the way was agreeing personal terms with the German midfielder, something that proved too big an obstacle for the Whites.

Amiri did fly to England to discuss the move further, but Leeds abandoned the deal as it became clear that Amiri was being more difficult than had hoped, expecting the birth of his and his wife’s child.

The 26-year-old was forced to pay his own way back to Germany after the club realised he was not going to agree a deal – per The Athletic.

Amiri jumps to own defence on Leeds collapse

 at Mainz in the Bundesliga, Amiri believes he is not to blame for the collapse of his Leeds transfer in the summer window.

He was wanted by the club, but Amiri claims he couldn’t see himself dropping into the Championship, as he shared this in an interview with Watson – claiming that some of the English media reports on the matter weren’t true:

“Leeds really wanted me. They made me a brutal offer and asked me to just take a look at everything on site. But I couldn’t really imagine it, especially for family reasons. When I was there, I was supposed to sign straightaway that day, even though it wasn’t agreed upon.

“A lot of what you read in the media afterwards wasn’t true. There was not back and forth with the acceptances and rejections, I was clear about that from the start.

“It was disappointing that afterwards everyone thought I was the bogeyman – it shows that there is a lot going on behind the scenes that the public doesn’t even notice, and in the business, people sometimes forget that we are people and not commodities.”
