Rams rumors: Los Angeles among teams ‘sniffing’ quarterback ahead of NFL Draft
There are many paths the Los Angeles Rams could take in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, but it’s not often teams have first-round picks these days, so general manager Les Snead and the Rams’ front office have You definitely want to do the best you can.
Its. Areas like the defensive line and secondary make a lot of sense, but one area that hasn’t been talked about as much but could benefit from reinforcements is quarterback. Matthew Stafford is closer to the end of his career than the beginning, while Jimmy Garoppolo only signed a one-year deal. The team also has Stetson Bennett, who was drafted last year, but he is not confident either.
There are many interesting quarterback candidates in the upcoming draft, and with the 19th overall pick, the Rams may have the opportunity to select one. And according to Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal, they’re one of the teams keeping an eye on quarterback.
It makes perfect sense for the Rams to focus on quarterback in this draft. That’s because beyond the top three prospects, there are other players who could become available and become NFL starters in the future.
Michigan’s JJ McCarthy, Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., and Oregon’s Bo Nix are all extremely talented and have made a huge impact at the college level. Even if the Rams don’t want to use a quarterback they drafted in the first round, they could try to take him in the second round, and perhaps even move forward to do so.
Nothing should be ruled out, and the Rams would be wise to consider all options. If they feel there is a long-term solution for the quarterback, the team will definitely consider moving him.
One reason the Rams may still be looking for a quarterback is because they didn’t get the quarterback they wanted in a trade.
The team was reportedly interested in former Washington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell, but lost out to the divisional rival Seattle Seahawks and used a third-round and fifth-round pick to acquire Howell. He gave up a first-round pick.
He was only 23 years old and already had some success in the NFL. Howell would have made a lot of sense for coach Sean McVay’s Rams, but that wasn’t in the plan.
