SAD NEWS: Baltimore Ravens legend breaks silence after police say he pulled gun and threatened to kill man at Starbucks

Legendary Baltimore Ravens defender Terrell Suggs has broken his silence after news broke Wednesday that he was arrested in Arizona following an incident in which police say he pulled out a handgun and threatened to kill someone last month

The 41-year-old former star pass rusher has been charged with assault and offense against public order, according to CBS Sports. The site said a judge ordered a supervised release for Suggs after he appeared in court on Wednesday.

“I was in a quiet area of Scottsdale in the middle of the day in a Starbucks drive-thru near my home when an incident happened with a vehicle behind me,” Suggs told TMZ. “I was getting coffee; I was not looking for any trouble. When the man in the other vehicle escalated the situation, I feared for my safety not knowing what his intentions were. Throughout the incident, I was the one who felt in danger, while fearing I would be followed home and for the safety of my family nearby at my residence.”

As CBS points out, while he was a legend for the Ravens, Suggs is from Arizona, played collegiately at Arizona State and also spent a year with the Arizona Cardinals after leaving the Ravens.

Police say that back on March 10, Suggs put his Range Rover in reverse in the drive-thru and struck a car behind him. They say that a heated exchange ensued with Suggs reportedly “flipping off” the other driver.

USA Today said police said Suggs then told the driver, “I’ll kill your (expletive) (expletive).” They say he then pulled out a handgun before driving off. USA Today said charging documents said Suggs never pointed the gun at the other driver, but the driver said he felt threatened.

The incident was reportedly captured by a camera system on the other driver’s vehicle.

Suggs played 16 seasons for the Ravens, helping the team win the Super Bowl in 2012. He was a seven-time Pro Bowl pick and was the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2011.

He also helped the Kansas City Chiefs win a Super Bowl in 2019.

Suggs finished his career with 886 tackles and 139 sacks.
