Another £25m Leicester City show exit door as star man set to leave this week

One Leicester City player could play his final game for the club this weekend.

It’s been a joyous few days in the city of Leicester, having wrapped up automatic promotion and the Championship title.

Last night, The Foxes showed little signs of a hangover from the weekend as they cruised past Preston North End at Deepdale.

The East Midlanders were 3-0 victors thanks to two goals from Jamie Vardy and a Kasey McAteer header.

Now, Enzo Maresca‘s side have the chance to take their points tally to 100 on the weekend, as they play host to 19th-placed Blackburn Rovers, who are still in danger of going down.

An interesting team selection awaits

Leicester have fulfilled their objectives; automatic promotion and the Championship title.

The East Midlanders can now play with the shackles off at King Power Stadium on Saturday and Maresca may opt to give some of the fringe players a runout.

The talented duo of Will Alves and Sammy Braybrooke could feature, as may Wanya Marcal, who hasn’t started a league game since August.

Conor Coady hasn’t featured nearly as much as he would’ve hoped but did start in the win at Preston last night.

It could be a day of farewells for some, with a number of players out of contract at the end of the season.

Kelechi Iheanacho could play his final game for the club

Kelechi Iheanacho could play his final game for Leicester on Saturday, as his contract is set to expire at the end of June.

Having not started a game since the start of December, it seems he’ll be free to depart on a free transfer.

Since joining the East Midlanders from Manchester City in a £25m deal in 2017, the Nigeria international has made 231 appearances, scoring 61 goals whilst laying on 34 assists.

Iheanacho has delivered a number of memorable moments, most notably during the 2020/21 season, when he netted 19 goals, including four en route to the historic FA Cup triumph at Wembley.

It’s not always been easy for him, having not been a regular starter, but he’s adored by City fans and will be missed if Saturday’s game is indeed a farewell.
