– The funds will support the Foundation’s invaluable work in the community
– The Srivaddhanaprabha family’s contributions to local causes now exceed £5.5M
The donation continues his family’s long tradition of giving back to a community that remains at the heart of the Football Club through significant support for vital work and services across the county.
The new funds will be distributed through the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation to its chosen charities for the 2024/25 season, all of which make a huge difference to the lives of the people of Leicestershire.
Announcing the donation, Leicester City Chief Executive Susan Whelan said: “Our commitment goes beyond football; it’s about making a meaningful impact in our community. The Srivaddhanaprabha family has always placed great importance on supporting health and well-being in Leicestershire. The chosen charities for next season align perfectly with our mission to assist those in greatest need, and we will be confirming further details of these in due course.”
This new pledge brings the total contributions made by the Srivaddhanaprabha family through the VS Foundation, renamed in 2018 to honour the memory of our former Chairman, to over £5.5M, reflecting their ongoing commitment to the community. The family’s generosity has supported a variety of local causes over the years, significantly improving the lives of many in Leicestershire.
Leicester Hospitals, a long-term partner of the VS Foundation, benefited from a £2M donation for a new specialist children’s hospital, a gift following Leicester City’s remarkable Premier League victory in 2016. Additionally, the hospital’s Neonatal Incubator Appeal received £1M from the Foundation to enhance its facilities for neonatal care in 2022.
The commitment of the Foundation to children’s health was further strengthened with a £1M endowment establishing a Professorship in Children’s Health – a collaboration with Leicester Hospitals and the University of Leicester in 2017.
The Foundation’s initiatives have varied widely, including support for the restoration of Leicester Cathedral and the launch of the Gift of a Wish program in 2019, which allocated £610,000 to support both major and minor local causes through the pandemic and beyond.
Furthermore, donations to the VS Foundation have also enabled the renovation of the Children’s Outpatient Ward at Leicester Royal Infirmary and equipped the Children’s Intensive Care Unit with essential, life-saving technologies.
