BREAKING NEWS: Leeds United set to announce major new investor as 49ers strike deal in few hours

The 49ers are set to announce that film star Will Ferrell has bought a “large” stake in Leeds United, sources have told The Sun.

The newspaper reported via its website [5 May] that the Hollywood movie star has bought a stake in the football club as the Whites prepare for the Championship play-offs, adding he is set to be a “major investor” at Elland Road and “pumped a large stake” into 49ers Enterprises.

Leeds are hoping to seal promotion back to the Premier League, having missed out on automatic promotion to Ipswich Town on the final day of the season.

Speaking to The Sun, a source close to Ferrell said: “It’s true – Will Ferrell owns a share of Leeds.

“The 49ers will be announcing his involvement in the coming days and he’s looking forward to sprinkling a little stardust on the club. He loves soccer and has been particularly impressed by the passion of the English game.

“And his aim now is to see Leeds back where they belong — in the Premier League. As far as Will and the 49ers are concerned, this is a serious investment opportunity.”

Will Ferrell to be announced as new Leeds United investor

Clearly inspired by the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney story at Wrexham, Ferrell is set to be announced as a new investor at Elland Road.

Considering some of the financial concerns floating around the club this season, a new income of money will be a very welcome idea at Elland Road, especially for the 49ers.

Ferrell is already a co-owner of Los Angeles FC in MLS, which shows he has prior experience in the sport over in America.

With the hope of playing a part in the club securing promotion to the Premier League this season, this news will come as a timely boost ahead of the Championship play-offs.

Of course, Daniel Farke and his players will be disappointed by the manner in which they missed out on automatic promotion, having lost four of their last six matches of the season.

This allowed Ipswich Town to pip them to second place in the Championship table with a final-day win over relegation-bound Huddersfield Town.

In other Leeds news, one Leicester star has taken a swipe at the Whites and Georginio Rutter after they sealed the Championship title.
