JUST IN: Kieran Maguire: 49ers have transfer plan to resolve Leeds United’s “serious” £190m issue

Leeds United have been revealed to owe a significant amount of money in transfer fees this year, with the 49ers aiming to steady the ship after relegation.

Promotion to the Premier League for Leeds can only come via the playoffs now after finishing third behind Leicester and Ipswich, and that return would be huge for the club’s finances.

It’s so obvious for clubs that are relegated that getting back into the top flight at the first time of asking is vital, but Leeds have some underlying financial concerns that might need a solution soon.

Revealed: Leeds United owe £190m in transfer fees

Leeds’ finances for the 22/23 year were revealed in the past month, showing that the club are in a reasonably stable position when it comes to PSR thresholds.

Clubs like Leicester, Everton and Nottingham Forest have proven this season that the powers that be are not afraid to start clamping down with tangible sanctions.

However, it’s not all smooth sailing for Leeds with their owed transfer fees standing at an approximate whopping £190million, with only around £2million due to come in from other clubs.

Kieran Maguire shares how Leeds resolve owed transfer fees

Finance expert Kieran Maguire has now spoke about the club’s current predicament heading into the summer, with player sales likely to be a major helping hand in resolving the cash flow problem.

Loan players that left in the summer could be the way that the 49ers bring in significant revenue to manage the finances, as Maguire spoke to Football Insider:

“Leeds United have got a lot of players out on loan this season which could cushion the blow of not being in the Premier League.

“So that’s something which they will have to negotiate their way through next season.

“Leeds do have a serious cash flow issue in terms of what they owe to other clubs for previous signings so that will stop them spending big this summer unless they sell.

“But I think the 49ers are too big of a brand to not give the club appropriate levels of support and they will know that there will be backlash if they fail to do so.“

If we’re in the Premier League, this isn’t going to be an issue for us – both in terms of selling players and repaying these owed fees.

Staying down represents a major headache and you would expect that we’re going to have to sell multiple players, including some from the main squad.

However, I don’t see these owed fees being something that totally cripples us going forward, because they’ve been factored into our finances overall.
