NFL superstar Joe Burrow is back on the field with the Cincinnati Bengals throwing for the first time since his devastating season-ending injury.
The talented quarterback faced a major setback with a torn ligament in his throwing wrist during a clash against the Baltimore Ravens last November, with an injury that raised concerns about its impact on his future throwing capabilities.
However, after a surgical intervention and a six-month hiatus from throwing, Burrow has made significant strides in his recovery. He’s now smoothly executing passing motions, much to the delight of his team who witnessed his return to action.
Brad Kragthorpe, the Bengals’ quarterbacks coach, couldn’t hide his enthusiasm about Burrow’s progress, telling the team’s website: “He looked like the Joe Burrow we’re used to seeing. I didn’t see any difference. I thought the ball came out of his hand well. Confidently. I’m happy where he’s at.”
With this promising update, Burrow is on track to be fully prepared for training camp later this summer. He’s set to start his season preparations in July and aims to hit the preseason field in August. Last offseason, Burrow secured his financial future by signing a whopping five-year, £220 million contract extension, setting a new record as the highest-paid player in NFL history.
The Bengals have had a thrilling offseason, snapping up offensive tackle Trent Brown in free agency and drafting fellow tackle Amarius Mims in the first round to bolster Burrow’s protection. They also drafted one of the most exciting wide receivers in the NFL Draft, Jermaine Burton from Alabama, who racked up 15 touchdowns and 1,500 yards in his last two seasons with the Crimson Tide.
While they’ll be chuffed with their new additions this offseason, perhaps the biggest relief is that they managed to retain both Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson. Both players requested a trade just hours before the first round of the draft.
Higgins is set to be the starting wide receiver alongside Ja’Marr Chase, with many pundits predicting he will be one of the top players in the league at his position. Higgins has scored 24 touchdowns in the past four seasons, stepping up when Chase has been sidelined.
Despite Hendrickson also requesting a trade, there has been little chatter about him potentially leaving the team, with Cincinnati possibly looking to negotiate a deal with the talented pass rusher. Hendrickson is fresh off a phenomenal season with 17.5 sacks, ranking as the team’s best defensive player.
