Tottenham’s players have decided that Daniel Levy should select a ‘world class’ manager.
Tottenham are still looking for a new manager, and while Daniel Levy hasn’t made a decision, the Spurs squad knows exactly who they want.
Indeed, according to The Daily Mail, Mauricio Pochettino is Tottenham’s clear first-choice manager.
This is not at all surprising.
Sky Sports earlier claimed that some Spurs players have been in contact with the ‘world class’ manager recently, and the Argentine still has some very strong links within that squad.
Spurs players may be interested in Pochettino, but whether this move appeals to all parties is debatable.
Alasdair Gold has claimed on numerous occasions that a move for Pochettino has divided the Spurs board, and there is even some doubt over whether the man himself would want the job.
Not to mention, Pochettino and Spurs have a strained relationship following his dismissal in 2019, and he is rumored to be interested in the Real Madrid position.
However, with Carlo Ancelotti continuing to prevail in the Champions League, there are no promises that the Madrid position will be available in the summer, and while he’s also been connected with Chelsea, nothing can be predicted.
We don’t know which Spurs players are lobbying for Pochettino to return, but given his friendship with Pochettino and the clout he has in the dressing room, we have to assume that Harry Kane is one of the players who wants to see the Argentine return to north London.
It remains to be seen whether Levy would listen to the players’ opinions, although he may be prudent to re-hire Pochettino at this stage.
