Alfie Doughty is believed to be on the Bees’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Hatters could potentially lose players during the summer transfer window, following their relegation from the Premier League.
However, Luton didn’t spend a lot in the transfer market during the previous couple of windows, even though they arguably have the license to do so following their promotion.
Recruiting a number of players from the EFL on cheap and free transfers instead, Rob Edwards faced a challenging task in his quest to keep the Bedfordshire outfit at the top level for more than one season.
However, Edwards wasn’t a million miles away from guiding his team to survival and a number of their players impressed during the 2023/24 campaign, even though they were only able to win 26 points in total.
Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo scored a respectable number of goals during the season, so they could potentially attract interest from elsewhere, and there are others who were also able to step up to the plate.
Alfie Doughty attracting interest from Brentford and others
Doughty was a valuable attacking asset during the 2023/24 season, managing to adapt well to the top flight despite spending much of his career in the EFL.
Joining the Hatters in 2022, he was able to contribute to the Hatters’ rise to the top flight before playing an important role last season.

Managing to thrive against some of the best teams in England, with the 24-year-old registering two assists against Arsenal back in December, he is already attracting interest ahead of the summer window.
The Bees are just one of a number of English top-tier teams thought to be keen on him – and in a boost for those interested teams – Sky Sports have reported that the player is open to the opportunity of playing at the top level again.
This could mean that Doughty ends up leaving Kenilworth Road in the coming months, although a tempting bid will be required with the player not out of contract this summer.
Luton Town could afford to keep Alfie Doughty
As mentioned above, they didn’t spend a huge amount in the transfer market during their time in the top flight.
With this in mind, as well as the fact the Hatters may be able to offer Doughty a decent contract to extend his stay in Bedfordshire, they can probably keep him.
It’s not as if Kenilworth Road is a bad place to be either.
Luton have stability, a talented manager at the helm and a great chance of competing for promotion back to the top flight next term.
Doughty will want to be winning more games than he loses next term and he has more of a chance of doing that at Luton than he does at Brentford, who have done well in recent years but may finish in the bottom half of the top flight again next season.
Staying at Luton is certainly a good option for him.
