Deal in progress with Coventry City transfer windfall shut as Arsenal keen for Viktor Gyokeres deal

Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive as former Sky Blues star edges closer to a move to a move back to England and the Premier League

Arsenal are “very close” to securing the signature of Viktor Gyokeres which, if completed, will provide Coventry City with a significant cash windfall.

The Portuguese publication leonino.pt is reporting that the “deal is only tied up in financial details” as Mikel Arteta looks to step up the London club’s bid to lure the 26-year-old away from Sporting Lisbon.

The Sky Blues sold the Sweden international to Sporting for just over £20million (including bonuses which have been reached) last summer and have a sell-on clause which means the Championship club will get a percentage, understood to be 10 percent, of the profit on any future sale. It has previously been claimed that Gyokeres has an £86m release clause.

The report says: “If this transfer to Arsenal takes place, Gyokeres will have the opportunity to show all his talent in the most competitive championship in the world. Sporting, in turn, is preparing to make the biggest sale in its history.

“Remember that in the 2023/24 season, Gyokeres participated in 50 games for Sporting, scoring 43 goals and making 14 assists. Along with direct qualification for the Champions League by winning the championship, this record sale will provide the green and white SAD with even greater scope to reinforce the squad and fight for a second championship next season.”

Any significant cash injection for Coventry would be an exciting development for Mark Robins who is looking to strengthen his own squad this summer.

The report adds: “The Swedish striker has been a key player in Rúben Amorim’s team, standing out for his finishing ability and immediate impact on the Lions’ attack, contributing decisively to winning the national scepter.

“In this context, Rúben Amorim understands that it is essential to quickly close the signing of Fotis Ioannidis , a 24-year-old Greek striker, currently at Panathinaikos, but whose deal seems to have fallen through.”
