Tottenham striker Harry Kane has the opportunity to correct a mistake he made several years ago.
Harry Kane is finally set to make amends for signing a new contract with Tottenham and preventing a potential move to a Premier League giant. The striker is aware that he might have joined a team the magnitude of Liverpool earlier in his career and achieved trophy glory.
Kane has yet to win a team trophy in his club or international career. In recent months, the forward has surpassed Bobby Charlton as Tottenham’s and England’s all-time leading goalscorer.
However, he has no silverware to show for his efforts. Kane is a goal-scoring machine who would fit into most teams across the world.
However, Micah Richards believes that committing his future to the Spurs was his biggest mistake. Kane agreed to a new six-year deal in June 2018.
He was only 24 years old and nearing the pinnacle of his talents. Tottenham Hotspur were less than a year away from reaching the Champions League final under Mauricio Pochettino.
But tying himself to that long of a contract meant he’d never be able to get out easily. If he didn’t realize it at the time, he did a couple of summers ago when he tried but failed to force a move to Manchester City.
Kane, according to Richards, might have left Tottenham considerably sooner if he hadn’t signed a deal to join a team like Liverpool. “He’s just absolutely sensational,” the commentator wrote in the Mail last November.
“Signing such a long-term contract at Tottenham was a mistake because he could have won trophies at Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, or Bayern Munich.”
Since then, Liverpool has won the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup, as well as reaching two more European finals. Perhaps Kane could have been the difference in Jurgen Klopp’s close battles with City, allowing him to achieve more than he has.
Liverpool’s hopes of acquiring Kane have already ended, and he will be trying to surprise Klopp on Sunday. But, after the game, he can at least make amends by leaving this summer.
Manchester United has made Kane their No. 1 striker target. He is still a goal-scoring marvel and might help Erik ten Hag’s side make significant progress.
Kane scored 24 Premier League goals and would win the Golden Boot in any normal season if Erling Haaland wasn’t doing his thing at the Etihad. Spurs are in a difficult bargaining position, as his long-term contract expires in 2024.
Kane still has time on his side, and while Liverpool fans will be disappointed, a move to Old Trafford would see him take the step in his career that he should have taken years ago.
