Leicester City will be handed a “huge” points deduction this season in a hammer blow to their survival hopes, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that the Premier League set a precedent with the deductions handed to Everton and Nottingham Forest last season.
Leicester were charged in March with a breach of profit and sustainability rules for the 2022-23 campaign after reporting losses of £89.7million in that year alone.
The points deduction is expected to be higher than the four points taken from Forest and Everton after Leicester lost more than double the allowed limit of £105million over a three-year period.
Sources also say a deduction could be handed to Leicester before the start of the season, with the Premier League reluctant to repeat the issues of last season.

Last season, Everton saw a ten-point reduction reduced to six, before a further two-point sanction, while Forest were deducted four points for their breaches.
In those cases, it became clear that the base points deduction for a breach of PSR is four points, with different factors altering the eventual outcome.
Given Leicester’s massive breach of the rules, they are expected to receive higher than the base four-point deduction this season, having already failed to challenge the call.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 12 July that Leicester are facing a minimum 12-point deduction for the breach.
The Premier League faced backlash from fans across all clubs for the issues surrounding Everton and Forest last season, given the impact on the relegation battle.
This season, they are said to be keen to avoid similar backlash by getting the decision made as quickly as possible.
