BREAKING NEWS: Red Bull plot Leeds United promotion as new bid lined up for Dejan Ljubicic

Leeds United are lining up a new bid for FC Koln midfielder Dejan Ljubicic this summer, according to BILD Rhineland.

The newspaper reported this via their print edition on 26 July (page 14) after an initial bid [Nancy Froston, 25 July] for the Austria international was rejected.

The report also adds that Red Bull want to gain Premier League promotion this summer after the Whites fell narrowly short last term.

Dejan Ljubicic could be exactly what Leeds United need this summer

The Leeds midfield is arguably one of the most changed areas of a team in English football.

The club has seen both Glen Kamara and Archie Gray exit Elland Road already this summer.

Indeed, the club has already started to reinforce the centre of the park with the swift addition of Joe Rothwell on a season-long loan from Bournemouth.

However, as both Gray and Kamara have now departed, the Whites still find themselves a player down.

Charlie Crew is likely a player that will be called upon this season but it feels somewhat unfair to throw the youngster into the deep end and give him a regular starting role, for now at least.

Ljubicic would be an ideal acquisition to Elland Road as he is entering the final year of his contract and would likely be available for an affordable price.

It would also give Leeds some extra experience in midfield to help stabilise their team as a whole.
