BREAKING NEWS: Coventry City new boy makes bold statement and manager Mark Robins agrees with sentiment

Coventry City match reaction from CoventryLive as latest signing Brandon Thomas-Asante sets out his ambitions for the coming season

While most Coventry City players head into the new Championship campaign confident that the club can push for promotion in 2024/25, new signing Brandon Thomas-Asante has gone a step further, declaring that the team can win the league!

The 25-year-old only joined the Sky Blues on Thursday but has already seen enough to set his sights on automatic promotion to the Premier League.

“The squad is so strong and I know I can contribute something strong to that, because when I look at that, I really believe we can win the league,” he declared after making his debut for the club in the 2-1 CBS Arena defeat to German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

“Other clubs may not expect that from us, but I really do believe we have the ability and I think we are really going to prove that.”

He added: “The club knows they are on the cusp of the Premier League, we obviously missed out a couple years ago in the play-off final. We want that. Each of us, every player.

“I have had my eyes on the Premier League, I have always had my eyes on it. I feel like coming here, it will put me in that position. That is the task for the team and the club, from the owner all the way down to the fans, we are going to make I happen.”

Manager Mark Robins, meanwhile, agreed with Thomas-Asante’s sentiments in terms of targeting promotion this season, saying: “You have got to do that and we have to aim for that. That’s our aim and there’s no hiding away from it. The thing that we have to grasp is that we have got to aim there and if we aim there and hit it, happy days.

“If we miss then we are still aiming for it again and have to improve. There’s no divine right for anyone but we are putting things in place to be able to make that step. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later and that’s the trajectory we’re on and it will happen sooner or later.”
