Wrexham have been dealt a huge ‘blow’ to their chances of signing Joe Morrell after John Mousinho ruled him out for several months.
Wrexham have announced six new players ahead of their return to League One, capturing two goalkeepers, three defenders and a midfielder.
The midfield talent they signed was George Dobson, who joined after cancelling his contract with Hungarian side Fehervar, where he was set to join in July.
Dobson captained Charlton Athletic last term and was seen as a coup by Wrexham but he wasn’t the only player they were after in that position.
Wrexham did attempt to sign Conor Hourihane following his release from Derby but he instead joined Barnsley after turning down a ‘big offer’ from the Reds.
The Welsh side were also in for Portsmouth’s Joe Morrell however, rumours surrounding his future have since died down amid a fresh update on his situation.

Wrexham first emerged as a contender to sign Morrell from Pompey in June.
The 27-year-old – who had just earned promotion back to the Championship with Pompey – was seeing his contract at Fratton Park come to an end.
This alerted several clubs in League One – including Wrexham – who were keen to capture the Welsh international in an ambitious move.
Although Morrell was free to leave as a free agent, manager John Mousinho previously said that his full focus was getting the midfielder back fully fit.
Now, Mousinho has provided a further injury update on the player, claiming he’s out for several months and won’t be back until late October.
Speaking to The News, the Pompey boss said: “Joe is still rehabbing and still injured. He’ll probably be back late October, which is unfortunate for Joe, a real blow.
“We would love to get him back as soon as possible for his own career, helping him out as much as possible, but that, ultimately, was a factor in the contract decision as well because that’s a large chunk of the season.”
Wrexham now don’t need Joe Morrell
Wrexham are stacked for quality options in midfield and don’t necessarily need a player like Morrell to join the ranks.
At the base of their midfield trio, Parkinson now has Dobson and George Evans to choose from, with the pair also capable of playing in defence.
Ahead of that duo, the Reds have Andy Cannon, James Jones, Elliot Lee, James McClean and Jordan Davies to operate in an advanced role.
It means that after landing Dobson, signing another midfielder is no longer a priority and Wrexham can turn their attention to other positions, with Parkinson keen on landing a striker.
