NEWS UPDATE: Wrexham predicted XI, team and injury news as Dan Scarr starts vs Wycombe Wanderers

Wrexham are set to play their inaugural League One match this weekend against Wycombe Wanderers.

The Red Dragons impressed during pre-season, even though they faced challenging opponents.

They secured victories over Hanley Town, Vancouver Whitecaps, and Fleetwood Town.

During their West Coast tour of America, Phil Parkinson’s team also drew with Premier League sides Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth.

Having achieved promotion in each of the past two seasons, Wrexham now faces a tougher challenge in League One.

To support their continued ascent up the football league, the club has already made six first-team signings this summer.

The newest addition to the Racecourse Ground is Dann Scarr, who joined from Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth.

Wrexham is expected to finalize additional transfers before the deadline later this month, with Parkinson confirming that a couple of deals are still in progress.

For their meeting with Wycombe Wanderers, though, the newly promoted side will have to make do with just the six new faces through the door.

Wrexham team news ahead of Wycombe Wanderers

Wrexham will have to make do without a couple of their established stars going into Saturday’s game.

Their 2023/24 top scorer Paul Mullin has undergone surgery and will be out of action against Wycombe.

Parkinson provided a Mullin injury update last week, confirming the centre-forward would be back on the grass by August 8th, suggesting a return is still not too far away.

There will be a couple more players who will likely miss the meeting with Wycombe this weekend.

Left wing-back Jacob Mendy is not expected to be involved, while Wrexham will be without a second striker for the game as Steven Fletcher’s fitness means he will miss out.

Wrexham predicted XI vs Wycombe Wanderers

Parkinson is facing something of a selection dilemma going into the club’s debut game in League One.

With Mullin injured, James McClean has been used out of position up front during Wrexham’s pre-season schedule.

However, with Mendy also expected to miss the Wycombe clash, the Irishman will revert to his usual left-wing-back role at the weekend.

The Welsh side still have an issue up top, however, as Mullin and Fletcher will be out, leaving Parkinson with a big decision to make regarding who will partner Ollie Palmer.

The most likely option is Jack Marriott despite his struggles in front of goal last term – scoring just once since January.

Further back, new signing Dan Scarr is expected to slot straight in at the heart of Wrexham’s defence.

Here’s how we think Wrexham will line up against Wycombe on Saturday…
