One Wrexham player certainly impressed in the opening League One game of the season.
Wrexham got off to the perfect start in the 2024/25 League One season, courtesy of a 3-2 victory at the Racecourse Ground against Wycombe Wanderers.
Despite achieving a double promotion, pressure will be on the Reds in this campaign to continue that form throughout the season and potentially find themselves in the higher echelons of the league table come the end of the season.
There is no doubt that Phil Parkinson’s side aren’t ready for the task of League One with their current squad, particularly the front line, which sees the likes of Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer and Jack Marriott competing for a spot in the team.
Steven Fletcher was also brought in last season, and he has made a significant and immediate impact to the season with a goal against Wycombe Wanderers, proving that the Reds certainly have the squad depth to combat the absence of one of their key figures in Mullin.
Every player shone on the pitch, however one in particular caught the eye of Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney in the opening game of the season.
League One impressed with Jack Marriott after Wrexham league opener
Marriott bagged his second league goal for Wrexham following his move to the club in January last season, and his performance pleased McElhenney.
Speaking to Leader Live, McElhenney said: “I was just really excited for Jack [Marriott].
“I just feel like he is going to shine.
“He was just looking for that goal that is going to give him the confidence to go out there and be the player that he is.
“It was beautiful. We don’t have any replay here so we had to run back in. We don’t have it up on TV so we had to look on our phones and find it.”

It’s clear that Marriott has proven previously in his career that he can perform to the best of his abilities as high as Championship level.
The 2017/18 season saw the talisman score a staggering 27 goals at League One level whilst at Peterborough, proving that he has the goal scoring prowess to perform at this level.
Recent times, particularly since he joined the Reds, have seen the striker playing with very little confidence in front of goal, and as a result was given just three starts in League Two in the 2023/24 campaign.
However, his finish against Wycombe Wanderers could give him the necessary confidence to finally prove his ability in a Wrexham shirt, and even go as far as tying down a starting position in a side with plenty of competition at striker.
