Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis is the man on City’s radar with the club desperate for a striker with Jamie Vardy and Patson Daka both injured ahead of the start of the Premier League
Leicester City are making a £22m move for Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis with their desperation for a new forward growing.
City are said to have placed an offer for the Greek international, who scored 23 goals in 44 games last season. They will rival Sporting Lisbon for his signature, with Ioannidis’s form catching the eye around Europe.
Manager Steve Cooper has been coy over his desire for a new striker this summer, but Jamie Vardy’s continued absence and a fresh injury for Patson Daka means City are short on attacking options ahead of their Premier League opener against Spurs. Tom Cannon is now City’s only fit senior striker, but after Daka was withdrawn in Saturday’s final pre-season friendly against Lens, Cooper brought on winger Stephy Mavididi to play up front, leaving the Republic of Ireland international on the bench.
Ioannidis had the best season of his career last term, adding nine assists to his 23-goal tally. In the Europa League group stage, the 24-year-old scored five times in six games, despite Panathinaikos struggling, only scoring seven as a team.
It was by some distance Ioannidis’s top goalscoring campaign, with his previous personal best coming in at seven goals. He was first linked to City in June, alongside Bologna, Celtic, Lille, Ipswich, and Sporting.
