New Leeds blow as ‘quick’ Premier League player set to join Championship promotion rivals

Leeds United are expected to get busy over the course of the next few days as Daniel Farke looks to bring in three or more new signings at Elland Road, after some major departures.

Failure to win in the club’s opening three games and an exit from the Carabao Cup in the first round has been compounded by Georginio Rutter’s imminent £40m move to Brighton, with Rutter saying goodbye.

Rutter follows Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray and Glen Kamara in leaving Elland Road this summer, after playing key roles under Farke last term. He had a hand in 24 goals in 51 games for Leeds last term.

But Brighton have moved to sign the Frenchman and it sees Leeds requiring replacements for both Rutter and Summerville, as well as the need for another full-back and a midfielder in the coming 11 days.Bashir Humphreys of Swansea City during the Sky Bet Championship match between Middlesbrough and Swansea City at the Riverside Stadium on April 06,...

Leeds set to miss out on “quick” target to Scott Parker’s Burnley

One interesting name linked with Leeds is Bashir Humphreys. England U21 star Humphreys has been made available for transfer by manager Enzo Maresca, and Leeds are said to have bid for Humphreys.

However, bad news for Leeds in pursuit of the “quick” defender as Championship rivals Burnley are set to sign the left-footed centre-back, following on from their brilliant 5-0 win over Cardiff City on Saturday.

Romano said: “Burnley have agreed deal to sign Bashir Humphreys. Loan with mandatory buy clause, it will become permanent for 5 year contract. Burnley see Bashir as a key defender for now and the future.”

Interest in Humphreys was only likely to depend on Max Wober

Given Leeds are looking at different positions to a centre-back, the interest in Humphreys did come as a bit of a surprise. But it might be that simply, Leeds were only interested if Max Wober ended up leaving.

The Austrian has been an unused sub in both of Leeds’ opening Championship matches and gave a poor showing against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup. But he has gone from Bundesliga to sub at Leeds.

Gladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus is still keen on signing Wober and could make a late move in the window to bring him back. Humphreys may have been seen as his replacement, but no longer.
