Eoghan O’Connell shares ‘unbelievable’ verdict on Wrexham fans ahead of Reading clash

Wrexham have made a solid start to the new season and Phil Parkinson should be pleased with the first couple of weeks.

Wrexham’s return to League One was always going to be quite the occasion for the club’s long-suffering supporters.

After more than a decade in non-league action, Wrexham are back in the EFL and made a dream start.

Wrexham beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-2 to start the season before losing 4-2 at Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup.

Phil Parkinson then returned to his former club Bolton Wanderers and picked up a hard-earned 0-0 draw.

Eoghan O’Connell on Wrexham fans

Wrexham are back in league action once again this weekend, hosting Reading at the STōK Cae Ras.

Parkinson and co can expect to be backed by another great home crowd, just as they were against Wycombe Wanderers earlier this month.

Wrexham took more than 3,500 fans to Bolton on Sunday and whether it’s home or away, these players will be backed brilliantly.

Even Bolton boss Ian Evatt has praised the Wrexham fans, suggesting that they were ‘excellent’ at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Wrexham centre back Eoghan O’Connell has now joined in ahead of this weekend’s game against Reading.

O’Connell has told BBC Sport that Wrexham fans are simply ‘unbelievable’ in terms of the following and support.

O’Connell added that Wrexham have made a ‘decent start’ but won’t be getting too excited just yet, vowing to remain level-headed.

“[We have an] unbelievable following and when you come out for the warm up you feel the amount of people behind you,” said O’Connell. “But we won’t be getting ahead of ourselves, it’s a decent start but that’s what it is – just a start,” he added.

Wrexham have big games coming up

After two away games in a row, Wrexham fans will be ready to create a great atmosphere against Reading this weekend.

There are big games to come though and Wrexham fans will certainly travel well despite being given an ‘initial allocation’ of just 1,563 earlier in August.

Wrexham then have two huge games, starting with a home clash with local rivals Shrewsbury Town.

The rivalry was stoked last season as Wrexham beat Shrewsbury in the FA Cup after jabs from Shrews defender Tom Flanagan.

The Wrexham fixture list has then shown up a trip to Birmingham City, which will be billed as Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds against Tom Brady.

North American celebrity ownership will be the focus for many heading into that game but Wrexham fans will just want three points – and will be ready to cheer Parkinson’s side on at St. Andrew’s.
