Fans react as Jamie Vardy sends shocking special message to all Leicester City fans as Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi respond

Jamie Vardy continued to show that age is just a number as he headed home Leicester City’s first goal of the Premier League season to secure a 1-1 draw against Tottenham on Monday night.

Jamie Vardy had not featured in pre-season after he sustained an injury in Leicester City‘s first friendly of the summer against Villarreal.

That meant the Leicester talisman was expected to miss the Premier League opener against Tottenham, but Vardy gave his side a boost by declaring himself fit to play ahead of the game.

At 37, Vardy continues to defy the odds and lasted 79 minutes before being replaced by Stephy Mavididi.

Crucially, in that time he scored what proved to be the goal that rescued Leicester a point having survived a first-half onslaught only one goal down.

That was Vardy’s 103rd Premier League goal since turning 30 – more than any other player – and he revelled in his return to the top flight.

Jamie Vardy sends message to Leicester City fans after Tottenham goal

Vardy was in the right place at the right time to head a delightful Abdul Fatawu cross past Guglielmo Vicario in the Spurs goal and could have even scored the winner as he was played through one-v-one with the ‘keeper shorty after.

It was not to be as Vardy’s left-footed strike was saved by Vicario, but Leicester fans will have no difficulty in forgiving their star.

Vardy posted a message to the supporters on Instagram on Tuesday with a picture of him celebrating his goal on Monday accompanied by the caption: “It’s great to be back

“Top performance from the lads to get back into the game. Special shout out to the fans for making it another special night at the King Power.”

Vardy can do no wrong as far as Leicester fans are concerned, with the veteran striker having fired the club to both Premier League and FA Cup glory.

Now, his task is simple: score the goals to keep Leicester in the Premier League.

It was no surprise to anyone to see Vardy on the scoresheet against Tottenham and team-mates past and present have been reacting to his latest contribution.

Kelechi Iheanacho left the Foxes this summer following the end of his contract and commented: “JV9 boom”.

Wilfred Ndidi and new signing Caleb Okoli both made their feelings clear, simply posting goat emojis to refer to Vardy as the greatest of all time.

The best comment was that of iconic former EFL forward Adebayo Akinfenwa, notorious for his huge frame and ‘Beast Mode’ catch phrase.

Akinfenwa responded: “Repping for the OG’s”.

Leicester fans will be hoping there is plenty of life in Vardy yet and that his strike against Tottenham was the first of many this season.
