DONE DEAL: Plymouth Argyle reported to have bid for Ghanaian star midfielder Michael Baidoo

Baidoo has been one of the best players for Elfsborg in Sweden’s top division, the Allsvenskan, this season

Plymouth Argyle and Austrian Bundesliga club LASK are reported to have made offers to Swedish side Elfsborg for their 25-year-old midfielder Michael Baidoo.

The Ghanaian scored the opening goal for Elfsborg in their 3-1 home win against IFK Goteborg yesterday, a result which leaves them in fourth place in the Allsvenskan, Sweden’s top division, with 10 matches of their season remaining.

After the game, Swedish newspaper Sportbladet reported that Baidoo looked set to be sold in the summer transfer window, which closes this Friday night, and that ‘both Plymouth Argyle and LASK Linz have made bids for the player – with the Austrian club very keen to sign the player.’

Baidoo has been with Elfsborg since 2022 after previously playing in Denmark and Norway, and he has scored 10 goals and had seven assists in a total of 26 games for the Allsvenskan side during their current campaign.

According to Sportbladet, LASK Linz have made ‘the highest bid at the moment’ and ‘there are also a couple of other foreign clubs who are prepared to buy the midfielder already now’.

Any transfer for Baidoo is not expected until after Elfsborg play the second leg of their UEFA Europa League Play-Off against Molde, of Norway, on Thursday. Elfsborg won 1-0 away to Molde last week and an aggregate victory would send them into the League phase, which would involve them playing eight games from September through until January.
