The Lilywhites appear to have had a long-standing interest in the Leicester midfielder.
Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly interested in signing Leicester City midfielder James Maddison this summer, and the arrival of former Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers could help in that quest.
According to Football Transfers, the Lilywhites’ executive director Donna-Maria Cullen is thought to be lobbying for the Northern Irishman to be given a permanent position, with the hope that the 50-year-old’s arrival at N17 may encourage Maddison to follow suit.
The latter, who has just over a year left on his present contract, is poised to leave the King Power Stadium this summer regardless of whether the Midlands club avoids relegation, while Rodgers is now unemployed after being fired by Leicester last month.
According to the newest claim, while Cullen is battling for the ex-Liverpool and Celtic manager, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reported to be ‘against’ such an appointment, with the long-term replacement to Antonio Conte still up in the air.
If Rodgers is ultimately given the job, the former Swansea City manager will be eager to reunite with Maddison, whom he praised earlier this season, saying that the playmaker “plays the game at the highest level.”
In terms of the current season, despite the Foxes’ overall struggles, the £110k-per-week wizard has once again been in excellent form, recording “extraordinary numbers” – as per Match of the Day host Gary Lineker – after chipping in with 19 goal involvements in just 28 league matches.
The Coventry-born ace is clearly a fan of Rodgers, who has been characterized as a “genius” by journalist Sid Lowe, having paid an emotional homage to his former boss after the latter’s departure from Leicester, calling him as a “top manager” and a “brilliant and caring man.”
That friendship suggests that Rodgers might be crucial in Tottenham’s pursuit of Maddison this summer, with the Lilywhites potentially benefiting from a fine double swoop.
