Leeds United top star Patrick Bamford in a police statement and threats after Sam Allardyce calls for action

The police have released a statement regarding the abuse and threats directed against Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford.

West Yorkshire Police have stated that they are collaborating with Leeds United following internet threats made against striker Patrick Bamford.

Following last weekend’s game against Newcastle United, the Whites published a statement condemning the hatred and threats sent against Bamford and his family.

Bamford was chastised on social media after failing to convert a penalty in the 2-2 draw at Elland Road. Michaela Ireland, Bamford’s fiancée, lashed out at Twitter haters, some of whom deleted their Tweets and accounts.

“Because when people threaten to attack Patrick in the car park/show up at our house/tell us to watch our backs when we next go out, you have to start taking these comments seriously,” she tweeted. “Ignore it and it’ll go away” hasn’t worked after five years.”

In a press conference on Friday, Leeds manager Sam Allardyce expressed his anger at the abuse and urged the authorities to take more action.

“He’s been well. “Obviously, you’re very upset about the situation, and you know something that is very, very, very bad taste indeed,” Allardyce remarked.

“I would like to see the police do a lot more.” Unfortunately, it appears that they run the world on social media and can say and do whatever they want. That is why the world is in such disarray. He’s handled it admirably. I believe the club provided him with all of the assistance he required, particularly in terms of security, and it wasn’t just about him; it was also about his family.

“The best way is for him to go out on Sunday, perform at his best, try to score, and it would be even better if he went and scored the winner.” So I’m hoping that hasn’t affected or won’t effect his performance.”

West Yorkshire Police have now issued a statement to the YEP, stating that “West Yorkshire Police is continuing to liaise with Leeds United in relation to the threats on social media.”
