Transfers: Five players who could still move before 20 September deadline

A few big players could move before the 20 September transfer deadline. Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are in the thick of it.

Deadline Day: Players who could move

Jaydan Adams to Sundowns

The 23-year-old midfield schemer from Stellies could become the fourth high-profile recruit from the Winelands side. They’ve already lost Iqraam Rayners to Sundwowns, Deano van Rooyen to Orlando Pirates and Antonio van Wyk to SV Ried in Austria. Sundowns are keen to tie up a deal for Adams.

Kaizer Chiefs want Appollis, among others

Chiefs are desperate to sign wide attackers with Oswin Appollis and Asanele Velebayi linked for weeks. 23-year-old Appollis, a recent standout performer for Bafana Bafana, was excluded from Polokwane’s matchday squad for a Betway Premiership opening day win over AmaZulu. However, coach Phuti Mohafe poured water on claims that this omission was because of a pending move.

“Oswin is alive, Oswin is here,” said Mohafe.

“He didn’t play, he was in the national team. So we have to rest him, we need him more going forward.”

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Velebayi also continues to be linked.

Orlando Pirates rejects are keen to rebuild their careers

The Buccaneers have released fringe players Katlego Otladisa and Lesedi Kapinga, taking their total of big-name exits to 10. Kapinga, once of Sundowns, has struggled to impose himself on the Pirates first team since moving there in July 2023. The 29-year-old is a three-time Betway Premiership winner but only featured in eight league matches for the Sea Robbers last term. The last time he reached double figures for league outings in a single season was 2020-2021 when he notched 12. He has four caps for Bafana Bafana. The ‘super sub’ tag has followed Kapinga for most of his top-flight career.

Both of these stars could be on shopping lists around the country as the deadline approaches.

Bucs start their title charge soon

Orlando Pirates have become cup specialists under Jose Riveiro but they’re desperate to clinch a first league crown since 2012 when they won their second Betway Premiership crown on the trot. They have a delayed start because of fixture congestion across MTN8 and Caf Champions League involvement.
