Newcastle United legend changes views about Harry Kane’s Tottenham future

Following Tottenham Hotspur’s merited 3-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday, Newcastle United veteran Alan Shearer believes Harry Kane should consider leaving the club.

Prior to the game, the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer told BBC Sport that Harry Kane would’see his career out at Tottenham’.

Later that evening, on Match of the Day, he told viewers that it’s high time he ‘looked at his options,’ as he joked with Gary Lineker that if he joined Newcastle United, he’d be’sat on the bench,’ so he didn’t shatter his goalscoring record.

Even if the Spurs are in decline and disarray, both on and off the field of play, Kane’s performances have stayed steady.

The 29-year-old netted a magnificent free-kick to open the scoring against Brentford, only for his team to collapse defensively and lose 3-1.

That was Kane’s 28th goal of the season – only Erling Haaland has more in the Premier League this season – and Shearer spoke on the England captain’s future both before and after the game.

“I think he’ll be there next season,” Shearer remarked before Brentford’s defeat. “I just think it’s because he cares about the football club.” I perceive him as a club enthusiast. He has been there for me through good and bad times. “I just see him finishing his career at Tottenham.”

However, after Spurs were defeated by Thomas Frank’s men, Shearer told MOTD: “If I were in his situation now, I would consider my options.” He has been devoted to Tottenham. He has been outstanding for Tottenham. I don’t think any Spurs fan would object if he said, “I’ve done my time.” I must now search elsewhere’.

When asked if Newcastle should sign him, Gary Lineker replied, “Only for him to sit on the bench, so he doesn’t break the record,” referring to the 260-goal player.

After Liverpool were defeated at home by Aston Villa on Saturday, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle now only need a point from their next two games to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Kane wants and needs to compete in that competition. Newcastle can provide that. His prospective transfer would result in a massive financial package. Newcastle can afford to do so. Then there was debate about trophies.

It’s been a long time coming for those at St James’ Park, but it now appears like they have a better chance of breaking their trophy drought than Spurs, so another tick for them.

In reality, it won’t happen, but if the Magpies truly want to make a statement, they should go all guns blazing for Kane in the summer because it would be the statement of all statements.
