Arsenal have reportedly added Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison to their summer transfer target list.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Gunners are interested in the England international, but the club’s priority remains a move for West Ham’s Declan Rice.
Maddison has shone for Leicester, and a move to a bigger club is likely, especially if the Foxes are relegated on the final day of the season.
The Daily Mail has stated that if Leicester go down, Maddison might cost less than £50 million, with Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham previously touted as suitors for the 26-year-old.
According to Ben Jacobs’ CaughtOffside blog, Arsenal has been connected with a similar talent in Chelsea star Mason Mount, therefore Maddison might be a viable option.
Spurs, on the other hand, may need Maddison even more after a dismal season that saw Antonio Conte resign as manager, leaving the club in a state of uncertainty heading into the summer.
A acquisition like Maddison may help elevate the morale and improve the quality of this Tottenham side, but if Arsenal enter the competition, the player would almost certainly prefer to transfer to the Emirates Stadium, where he’d have the opportunity to play Champions League games next season.
