Phil Parkinson reveals unique way he will prepare for Leyton Orient v Wrexham

Wrexham are set to take on Leyton Orient in a League One meeting this coming Saturday.

The Red Dragons got back to winning ways this past weekend after suffering their first league defeat of the campaign on Monday.

Wrexham lost 3-1 to Birmingham City, allowing the Tom Brady-owned club to go level on points with them at the League One summit with a game in hand.

With the big-spending Blues already breathing down their neck in the promotion hunt, the Welsh outfit know that any points dropped from this point forward could greatly impact their promotion push.

Wrexham beat Crawley Town 2-1 last time out and are next in action on Saturday, September 28th, facing off with Leyton Orient away from the Racecourse Ground.

Orient are 20th in the division right now but Phil Parkinson is taking no chances when it comes to preparing for the weekend’s meeting.

How Phil Parkinson is preparing for Leyton Orient v Wrexham

A number of League One games were postponed during the September international break, with Wrexham’s 2-0 win over Peterborough United one of the few clashes to take place at the end of August.

As a result, the majority of sides in the division will need to play in midweek in order to play their game in hand.

Leyton Orient are one such side and will be in action against Peterborough on Tuesday evening.

Now, as per Leader Live, Parkinson has revealed that he and his Wrexham coaching staff will all be in attendance at Brisbane Road on September 24th in order to scout Orient.

He said: “I will go down to Orient on Tuesday and have a good look at them. They have got Peterborough at home and they will be lifted by the great result on Saturday.

“I am really looking forward to watching them. If I can go down and see teams live, and get a feel for the environment, I like to do that.

“I will be doing my homework and the staff will be as well, and we will go down prepared to keep ourselves at the top end of this division.”

Phil Parkinson may make major Wrexham change vs Leyton Orient

Ahead of facing Leyton Orient this weekend, Parkinson has a major selection dilemma on his hands.

The Wrexham boss dropped Jack Marriott for Paul Mullin against Crawley, despite the former being in superb form this season.

Marriott is the club’s top scorer in 2024/25 and though Mullin and Ollie Palmer are Parkinson’s preferred striking duo, the 30-year-old deserves to be back in the team.

As a result, Parkinson could rip up Wrexham’s tactical blueprint for the meeting with Orient and instead start both Mullin and Marriott up top.

This would go against the 56-year-old’s preference to play one tall and one short centre-forward but Marriott should be rewarded, rather than punished, for carrying the club’s attack while Mullin was out.

Eoghan O’Connell may need to be dropped as well, with the centre-back looking somewhat sluggish during his last couple of appearances.
