The final three games of the 2024 regular season will be played between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the New York Yankees. After their most recent victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, the Yankees were formally declared the American League East champions. The Bronx Bombers defeated their division rival in the series finale after losing the first two games of the series.
The Yankees are ahead of the Cleveland Guardians by one game to claim the top AL seed. The team will try to finish with the best record in the league in the forthcoming series, but they already have a bye in the first round of the playoffs.
With their last-place standing in the National League Central, the Pirates are focused on the future. On Friday and Saturday, the team will start its two exciting rookie pitchers. To match their 2023 win total, the Pirates must win two games.
In these last series of the season, the Yankees will also be trying to bolster their postseason rotation. For the team’s three expected starters, this series will presumably serve as an audition to secure their spot in the Yankees’ postseason plans.
