Why Kaizer Chiefs midfielder didn’t start

Kaizer Chiefs have brought back Njabulo Blom from St Louis in the United States. Did we expect him to start on the bench against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday? Nope.

KAIZER CHIEFS ANNOUNCE NJABULO BLOM

For what was signing number six, Amakhosi announced the return of Njabulo Blom on a one-year loan deal from St Louis City of the United States of America.

“Kaizer Chiefs have reunited with utility player Njabulo Blom, who returns to the Club after his recent stint with St. Louis City FC in the United States. Blom, a talented and versatile footballer, has signed a one-year loan deal with Amakhosi and will once again don the famous Gold and Black jersey,” the Soweto giants said.

“The 24-year-old began his professional career with Kaizer Chiefs’ Youth Development Academy before making senior team debut after being promoted in 2019. He left Amakhosi in January 2023 to play in America’s Major League Soccer (MLS) with St. Louis City. His time abroad has further developed his skills on the field, showcasing his ability to play multiple positions and contribute both defensively and in the midfield,” the note added.

FITNESS ISSUES

After missing the game against Marumo Gallants as well as starting on the bench against Sundowns, coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed that Blom is not fit.

“Blom is a very good player but he is not ready 100%. Maybe 25 minutes is ok,” told SABC Sport, per iDiski Times.

“It’s a big risk for me to start him the game. That’s why we decided not to start with Blom but another choice,” the Kaizer Chiefs mentor concluded.
