Wrexham were beaten 1-0 at Stevenage on Tuesday night and Phil Parkinson now has a new injury problem to handle.
Wrexham made a second long journey in just a matter of days having faced Leyton Orient last weekend.
Phil Parkinson picked up a point in a 0-0 draw in that game but tasted defeat on Tuesday night at Stevenage.
Louis Thompson scored the only goal of the game after 10 minutes, firing a long-range strike beyond Arthur Okonkwo.
Wrexham dominated possession in search of an equaliser but couldn’t find the net in a fairly toothless display.
George Evans picks up injury in Wrexham defeat
Parkinson made a handful of changes from Saturday’s stalemate against Leyton Orient.
Dan Scarr came in for the injured Max Cleworth whilst Sebastian Revan started at left wing back with James McClean moving infield.
Steven Fletcher was handed a start in attack too whilst George Evans came in for Andy Cannon in midfield.
Evans replaced Cannon at Leyton Orient on Saturday and his impact was praised by Parkinson after the game.
The former Manchester City talent was therefore given a starting chance against Stevenage – but it didn’t quite go to plan.
Evans was substituted for Cannon just minutes after half time having gone down with another injury.
Boss Parkinson has now told BBC Sport that Evans ‘felt something crack’ and his potential absence is a ‘huge blow’ for Wrexham.
“It’s such a shame for George because he has worked hard to get back into the team,” said Parkinson.
“He felt something crack. I don’t know what it is, but it is a huge blow,” he added as Parkinson deals with another concern.
Evans injury record at Wrexham
Wrexham pounced to sign Evans from Millwall in 2023, landing a proven Championship midfielder in the process.
The 29-year-old signed an initial two year but but penned a new contract back in July, committing his future to the club until 2026.
Evans played an important role last season but missed around six weeks of action from February to the end of March last season through injury.
The problems have been prominent already this season too with Evans picking up a groin injury in August.
This latest problem is another setback for Evans and we can only hope to see him fit and firing again soon as his experience and composure on the ball can be a real asset this season.
