Phil Parkinson needs to make some changes to his starting line-up when Wrexham host Northampton Town.
Wrexham lost 1-0 to Stevenage on Tuesday, October 1st, seeing them slip down to second in the League One table behind Birmingham City.
Phil Parkinson’s men have now won just two of their last five league fixtures, with a draw against Leyton Orient and defeat to Birmingham City no doubt unwelcome sights for owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.
Wrexham’s away form is poor and the majority of their underwhelming displays in 2024/25 have come on the road.
However, they return to the Racecourse Ground this weekend for a clash with Northampton Town, who are in a similarly bad rut – winning just one of their last five.
Wrexham host Northampton in a 3pm kick-off on October 5th and we have now taken a look at three players Parkinson must bring back into the eleven for the game.
Paul Mullin
Paul Mullin started on the Wrexham bench for their trip to Broadhall Way on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old missed the beginning of the campaign due to injury and is still yet to get off the mark this season in the league.
But after drawing blanks in their last two outings, Parkinson should consider bringing Wrexham’s all-time top scorer back into the team this weekend.
Steven Fletcher is not good enough to start for Wrexham anymore, as was evident against Stevenage, and Mullin is the perfect replacement for him.
Elliot Lee
Like Mullin, it was somewhat surprising to see Elliot Lee start on the bench for Wrexham in their last outing.
Lee has previously been dubbed ‘fantastic’ and started the current season in top form, scoring three in eight League One games – the joint-second-most of any Wrexham star in 2024/25.
He was dropped to the bench against Stevenage, however, and the Red Dragons really struggled without Lee’s creative threat – managing just one shot on goal across the 90.
Andy Cannon
Parkinson experimented with a new-look midfield in Wrexham’s last game with James McClean operating on the left alongside George Evans and George Dobson.
Andy Cannon was dropped for the game but he now needs to come back in against Northampton.
McClean underperformed and will likely revert back into his more favoured defensive role this weekend while Evans is injured and facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines following an issue picked up on Tuesday.
