Leeds United defender Rasmus Kristensen appears to be nearing a resolution regarding his future, as his time at the club seems to be winding down. Following two loan spells over the past two seasons, the 27-year-old may not return to Elland Road.
On June 8, 2022, Kristensen signed a five-year contract with Leeds for a fee believed to be around £10 million. He officially joined the team on July 1, 2022, making him Leeds’s second confirmed signing of the summer transfer window and reuniting him with former Salzburg teammate Brenden Aaronson.
Since Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League after the 2022-23 season, Kristensen hasn’t played for the Whites. The Danish native has gone on two loan stints, but now it seems one club is willing to keep the player long-term.
Rasmus Kristensen to stay at Eintracht Frankfurt?
Last season, Kristensen went on loan to AS Roma, making 31 appearances across all competitions while scoring one goal and recording two assists. It would be a one-and-done season for the defender with the Serie A side as he returned to Leeds.
Although the Yorkshire side kept players like Aaronson and Max Wober, who returned from loan stints during the 2023-24 season, Kristensen went back out on loan; this time, he’d join Eintracht Frankfurt.
Kristensen has made nine appearances for the German side, scoring one goal and registering one assist so far this campaign. Nonetheless, this performance appears to be enough for Frankfurt to want to keep the player.
According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Frankfurt seek to secure Kristensen on a permanent deal. The club’s management is pleased with the right-back, who is currently under contract with Leeds until 2027. Eintracht plans to activate their option to buy, valued at €10 million to €12 million.
During his time at Leeds, the defender made 30 appearances across all competitions while scoring three goals and recording one assist. It will be interesting to see if Frankfurt does pull the trigger and activate his clause.
Nonetheless, for the Whites, they’ll secure a nice sum to use to improve the squad next year; whether in the Championship or Premier League remains to be seen.
