Luka Vušković to join Championship club on loan in 2025/26 – Tottenham Insider

John Wenham expects Luka Vušković to join an EFL Championship club on loan after he arrives at Tottenham next summer.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose claims the plan is to send the defender to a club where he will be starting regularly.

Vušković is currently on loan at Westerlo in Belgium from Hajduk Split, a move which Wenham was fully in favour of. Spurs youngster Alfie Devine is also spending the 2024/25 campaign with the Belgian side.

Spurs signed Vušković from Hajduk Split for £12million, with the centre-back set to join the North London club in the summer of 2025 after he turns 18 (via Evening Standard, 25 September 2023).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has detailed what might be next for the Croatian when he arrives in England.

“For Vušković and Devine it is just about playing regularly in Belgium,” Wenham said.

“They’re playing for a fairly decent side in Westerlo and there are lots of good challenges ahead. Both of them will then be looking to impress in pre-season.

“With Vušković, I think the plan is to get him a Championship loan next season. One where he will be guaranteed starts.

“That will allow him to continue to progress and learn about English football.”

Luka Vušković to join Championship club on loan after arriving at Tottenham

Vušković will be much more developed than other 18-year-old players when he arrives in England. By the time he links up with Spurs for the first time, he would already have experienced first-team football in Croatia, Poland and Belgium

However, English football is a different story. As a result, throwing him straight into the Spurs first-team wouldn’t be wise until he has gained some experience in England.

Therefore, sending him on loan to a Championship club can only benefit the player, and by the time he has celebrated his 19th birthday, he might be ready for consistent first-team football with Tottenham.

This represents yet another exciting defensive option for Ange Postecoglou.

Ashley Phillips is currently making an impression out on loan himself, with a temporary switch in the Premier League speculated for him.
