Coventry City teenager Aidan Dausch – a player described by manager Mark Robins as a ‘raw talent’ with all the ‘tools’ – has taken another step forwards in his quest to become a top player.
Recognised by the United States by virtue of his father’s nationality, the 18-year-old centre-forward has been called up for two friendlies with the USA under-20s against Chile on October 12 and 15.
So what do we know about the young prospect who emerged in the first team squad for the Sky Blues at the back end of last season when he made his Championship debut from the bench, quickly catching the eye? Here we take a look at the lad’s career so far.
The striker was on the scoresheet throughout the 2023/24 campaign, finding the back of the net regularly for the Under-18s and the Under-21s, and rewarded towards the end of the season.
He was included in the senior matchday squad as an unused sub against Hull last April and became the latest youngster to make his professional debut for Mark Robins side, coming off the bench aged 17 against Blackburn Rovers in the 86th minute for Callum O’Hare in the goalless draw at Ewood Park the following week. He then appeared at the Coventry Building Society Arena against Ipswich Town, going on in the 89th minute of the 2-1 home defeat.

Mark Robins is excited by City’s latest Academy prospect to get a taste of first team football. The Sky Blues boss threw him on against Ipswich in the dying minutes at the CBS Arena last season when City were trailing 2-1 to the Tractor Boys. And the teenager very nearly popped up with what would have been a stunning equaliser with a shot that sailed just wide of the top corner that the manager said would have scooped an end of season award had it gone in.
“That was a brilliant piece of play because it wasn’t a great ball to him but he brought it down out of the air and got it onto his left foot, so everything he did, the mechanics of that movement were really good,” enthused the City manager. “It was just the final execution but if that had gone in it would have been goal of the season. The way he moved onto it, his first touch and vision to get into space and the execution of the shot – everything was there apart from the direction of the finish. That’s good, exciting!”
He added: “He’s a confident lad and really intelligent. And he’s someone who wants to learn. He’s very new to it and he has a lot to learn but there’s some raw talent there and there are some really good tools to work with, that’s for sure.”
