‘Likes the attention’ – Wenham predicts Tottenham star to be ‘Unhappy’ after recent events

John Wenham expects Tottenham star James Maddison is “unhappy” after missing out on an England call-up for the October international break.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is not surprised the midfielder missed out on the England squad.

Maddison has scored twice in the Premier League this season. He netted last time out as Spurs lost 3-2 to Brighton at the Amex Stadium (6 October), a match which saw the 27-year-old involved in a “ridiculous situation”.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has urged Maddison to continue working hard to regain his place with the Three Lions.

“I wasn’t surprised that he was left out of the England squad,” Wenham said.

“Cole Palmer is in phenomenal form, Phil Foden is already established. Maddison just needs to continue doing well for Tottenham for a prolonged period.

“If he does, he will get back in. He will be looking at Morgan Gibbs-White and Angel Gomes as the players he needs to displace.

“There’s no getting away from it, he likes the attention, likes to be the main man, that publicity around him. Therefore, I imagine he is unhappy missing out for England.

“However, I think he will realise we are only seven games into the Premier League season. As a result, he just needs to keep working hard and pushing for the next internationals.”

Tottenham star James Maddison unhappy after missing out for England?

Maddison has been in decent form this season. However, unfortunately for him, there are plenty of England midfielders currently operating at a higher level.

Therefore, if Maddison wants to get back to the international stage, he needs to up his performance levels.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King was not surprised to see Maddison left out by Lee Carsley.

As a result, the playmaker needs to start proving people wrong and doing his talking on the pitch.
