Rob McElhenney shares verdict on Wrexham fans at New York Stadium after Rotherham United win

The Wrexham co-owner watched his side pick up a huge 1-0 win over Rotherham United on Saturday.

Wrexham faced off with Rotherham United on October 19th in their first League One fixture since the most recent international break.

Fresh off the back of a 4-1 win over Northampton Town, the Red Dragons were expected to give a good account of themselves against a Rotherham United side who started the day 16th in the division.

It was not the most exciting display on the whole but Phil Parkinson’s side picked up the win and that is all that matters.

Unfortunately for the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds-owned club, Birmingham City also secured a victory on Saturday, meaning they are still two points clear at the League One summit having played one game less.

A couple of Wrexham players impressed during the win, including striker Paul Mullin and right-back Ryan Barnett.

Rob McElhenney shares verdict on Wrexham fans after Rotherham United

After scoring the only goal of the game after just 16 seconds on Saturday, Wrexham fans sent a message to Mullin, welcoming the striker back following his first league goal of the season.

McElhenney also took to social media to comment on the game but instead decided to praise the club’s fans, rather than the players.

There were a total of 11,235 in attendance at the New York Stadium on October 19th, 2,356 of them being the away supporters.

Now, McElhenney has praised the Wrexham supporters on X/Twitter, writing: “We are LOUD on the road. Sounded like a home game. Up the Town!”

Phil Parkinson gives Jack Marriott injury update after Rotherham United

Mullin was the star of the show against Rotherham, coming into the starting line-up in place of Jack Marriott.

Marriott has found the net five times in 2024/25 so far but was left out of the matchday squad on Saturday.

Rumours emerged that the 30-year-old had picked up an injury but nothing was confirmed until Parkinson stated post-match that the forward will be out for around four months.

He said: “He had a shot on goal with no-one near him (in training on Thursday) and his foot just went underneath him. He’s broken his fibula and is facing an operation on Monday.”

It is a big blow for the striker, who is playing for his Wrexham future this season as he is now in the final 12 months of his contract.
