Wrexham fans all send same message to Paul Mullin after 16-second goal vs Rotherham United

Wrexham returned to League One action on Saturday with an away tie against Rotherham United.

Phil Parkinson and his players signed off for the international break in style with Wrexham smashing Northampton Town 4-1.

Their record away from the Racecourse Ground in 2024/25 has been poor though, with the Red Dragons already dropping 10 points in League One when on the road.

Ahead of Saturday’s game, Rotherham United boss Steve Evans gave a glowing verdict on Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

Elsewhere before the game, Evans commented on Ollie Rathbone’s move to Wrexham and was looking forward to linking back up with the midfielder.

The Rotherham manager will have no doubt been hoping Rathbone’s new team continued their poor form away from the Racecourse this season when the pair met at the New York Stadium.

But Wrexham likely fancied their chances of picking up three points as The Millers were 16th in League One prior to the game getting underway.

Wrexham fans all send same message to Paul Mullin vs Rotherham United

And, despite their previously poor form on the road, it took Wrexham just 16 seconds to take the lead at Rotherham.

Ryan Barnett, who has been in sensational form this season, whipped a cross into the opposition box for Paul Mullin to poke in for his first League One goal of the season.

Mullin has started just one league tie this term due to an injury picked up over the summer but after netting against Rotherham, Wrexhams fans took to X/Twitter to all send the same ‘welcome back’ message to the club’s record goalscorer.

One fan wrote: ‘Super Paul Mullin scores 16 seconds into the start of the match! Welcome back to the starting 11!’.

A second added: ‘Super Paul Mullin is BACK’, while a third wrote: ‘Paul Mullin has arrived’.

Another Wrexham fan made a similar tweet, stating: ‘Super Paul Mullin is back!’

Wrexham journalist Richard Williams also took to social media to claim that the forward is back, writing: ‘He’s back – cross from Barnett is volleyed home by Mullin.

A sixth Wrexham fan exclaimed ‘GOOOOOLLLLLLLL!!! MULLIN IS BACK BABY!!!!?’, while a seventh added: ‘Welcome back, Mr. Mullin!’

Paul Mullin finding form key for Wrexham amid Jack Marriott absence

Prior to Mullin’s return to the starting line-up, it was Jack Marriott who was leading the line for Wrexham.

The 30-year-old is the club’s top scorer in League One this season but missed the game on Saturday, not even being included in the matchday squad.

Unconfirmed rumours emerged on social media on Friday that Marriott was injured and while not clear at this stage, that does appear to be the case given his absence at Rotherham.

It remains to be seen what the actually issue is with the striker but the blow of his potential injury will be eased somewhat if Mullin is indeed now back to his best.
