Coventry City’s wait for a first ever away win at Preston North End continues after Emil Riis’ second half goal proved to be enough to secure a 1-0 home win and three points.

Having been reliant on goalkeeper Oliver Dovin in the first half, Mark Robins’ men improved in the second only to be hit by a sucker punch in the 72nd minute as they failed to clear a corner and paid the ultimate penalty.

The Sky Blues responded well and deserved an equaliser but were frustrated to see Haji Wright’s ‘goal’ chalked off for hand-ball. The forward missed another good chance before the visitors saw a late header superbly saved by Freddie Woodman.

The result leaves City with only eight points from ten games and with just one win and four defeats in their last six. Sky Blues fans had their say on CoventryLive’s website.

leruet: I expect to read a lot of doom and gloom on here, but this was not a bad away performance. Yes we gave a way a poor goal and they missed a couple of chances, but so did we. I could not see the handball for Wright’s goal. Tough times, but we need to stick together, and support the lads. QPR on Tuesday PUSB

skyblueseas: We’re unable to make any real efforts on goal with set pieces, appalling. Can’t understand why Simms is getting a look-in presently. Van Ewijk passing back and getting us into trouble again. Sheaf losing the ball consistently when no real pressure on him. Still plenty of chances but no real belief in scoring.

riva: On this showing both teams are in their rightful place in the table. It is certainly going to be a long cold winter for the City I am sorry to say. Twelve shots at goal and only one on target sums them up correctly.
