Fans celebrates as Tottenham finally appoint new manager until June 2027

Tottenham have named Ange Postecoglou as their next manager.

Postecoglou has agreed to a four-year contract and will begin work on July 1, bringing an end to a 72-day hunt for Antonio Conte’s permanent replacement. The club has not announced his backroom personnel, but Standard Sport understands Postecoglou wants John Kennedy, his assistant manager at Celtic, to join him.

Spurs are reportedly paying Celtic roughly £5 million in compensation for a manager who has won five of the six domestic titles available to him in Scotland. In his final game as manager, the 57-year-old secured the Treble by defeating Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.

Spurs have been interested in Postecoglou since Conte’s dismissal in March, although chairman Daniel Levy has also spoken with out-of-work former Spain coach Luis Enrique, as well as ex-Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot.

After spending the majority of his career in Australia, most notably with Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory, and little over four years in charge of Australia, which he led to the 2014 World Cup, the Greek-born Australian accepts his first position in one of Europe’s top five leagues. He also spent time with Yokohama F. Marinos in Japan.

Postecoglou is committed to playing a high-octane brand of possession and high-pressing football, which has earned him admirers across Europe, while he has also been credited with a number of astute transfers and his ability to unite clubs – all of which likely drew Spurs’ attention.
