Leeds United reportedly had former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin on trial last week to evaluate if the veteran midfielder could help solve their ongoing midfield crisis.

Manager Daniel Farke confirmed that the club is exploring free-agent options after injuries to Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev. Recently, Leeds have also been linked to Cheikhou Kouyaté, the former Nottingham Forest midfielder.

The same report adds that the club will be trialing an unnamed German player this week. TEAMTalk also reported on Monday that Josuha Guilavogui could be on the verge of heading to Elland Road.

Guilavogui has earned seven caps for France and served as club captain at VfL Wolfsburg, where he made over 250 appearances for the Bundesliga side. The Frenchman has also played for Atlético Madrid and, more recently, Mainz.

Christoph Kramer and Francis Coquelin are not heading to Elland Road?

Leeds Live reported on Monday that the rumors surrounding Christoph Kramer and Francis Coquelin have significantly quieted down. While both players have been mentioned in the national media, it seems that the strength of those reports may be overstated.

Moreover, Farke addressed having special guests over but didn’t go into much detail about what transpires behind closed doors.

“No, I don’t speak too much about what happens behind closed doors,” Farke said. “A few guests’ also doesn’t mean they are just trialists.

“I’ve also read some articles [about] who was in, or whatever. You wouldn’t have that much space here at the training ground to have all the players who are linked with being on trial.

“Sometimes it’s also funny. No, I don’t lift the curtain anyhow. It’s more like, yes, there were a few people around, but it doesn’t mean it’s just players who are here on trial, or competing against each other, or whatever. What we do is on a professional level and we do it also like sticking to the rules and having the right decisions. Let’s see what the outcome is.”
