Leeds United set to sign Bundesliga star

Leeds United are on the brink of signing a major free agent to finally end their midfield woes. Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has had to rely on the efforts of Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell in recent weeks following injuries in the middle of the park but that may no longer be the case.

Farke turned to Tanaka and Rothwell when both Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev went down with injuries which left Farke scratching his head at what to do in the middle of the park. Tanaka and Rothwell have both shone in recent games, becoming cult heroes to the Elland Road faithful after they helped mastermind the ending of Sheffield United’s unbeaten run on Friday night, but with the Watford game round the corner and big games coming thick and fast, Farke is finally set to add to his midfield ranks.

Leeds United set to bring Bundesliga stalwart

After The Leeds Press reported earlier today that Leeds United were interested in signing Joshua Guilavogui, TeamTalk have reported that Farke has green lit plans to sign a free agent which is set to be the French international.

Farke had reservations about signing a free agent given the time it takes them to build fitness having been without a club, but needs must and Farke has now green lit the move for a free agent and Leeds United are now on the brink of bringing in the midfielder.

Guilavogui has been capped by France seven times and was club captain at VfL Wolfsburg in a spell that saw him make over 250 appearances for the Bundesliga giants. The Frenchman has also starred for Atletico Madrid and most recently for Mainz. After his one-year deal with the German club expired at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, the 34-year-old was left clubless but he is now set to join Leeds United on a short term deal.

It’s important to note that Guilavogui is not a done deal however and the Whites could still elect to draft in former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin who has spent time training with the club according to reports.

Nonetheless, it is certain that Leeds will bring in a free agent with Farke himself now confirming as such.

“Yeah it’s a bit closer. Latest by the end of next week we’ll have a decision made in any direction,” Farke said during his press conference today.

“But it can also happen quick and let’s see what the next days will bring.”
